Health & Wellness

Yes, I am an Adrenaline Junkie

I have always believed in the adage that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind and since my school days have always kept myself fit and watched my diet.  I was very much into sports and represented the school and state in athletics and tennis.  A day without any physical exercise would feel like a day without purpose and I developed other interests like working out at the gym, golf and cycling.

As we age, our metabolic rate decreases, we lose muscle mass and as a result burn calories at a slower rate.  This would lead to weight gain and cardiovascular disease.  I now eat much less than 20 years ago and going for a hotel buffet is so wasteful because I just am not able to consume the intake that was possible when I was much younger.

Research has shown that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Maintaining a level of physical fitness and a balanced diet will prove to be hugely beneficial to both your physical and mental health.

The Gym Addict

I have been going to the gym since 1987 when Clark Hatch was still housed at the KL Hilton, Jalan Sultan Ismail.  In those days there was no regards to overtraining as I was in the prime of my life.  The gym also provided ALL the clothing necessities from top, shorts, socks and even shoes (personal hygiene was really a low priority then).  I had the convenience of the locker room and bath for days that I had to stay in the office to complete my work.  As the internet was not around then, much time was wasted to type proposals and get information via the facsimile (or fax) machine.

I stopped my membership with Clark Hatch when I was transferred to Jakarta in 1992 and upon returning, I enrolled with Fitness First which had many more branches and the convenience of variety.  Until today, I still work out at Fitness First and Celebrity Fitness which is managed by the same management company and Clark Hatch (now CHI) is also in the group.

I don't take part in the classes now and just undergo thread mill warm-ups followed by stretching and weights ..... but not with the insane weights that I used to lift before.

My way back to nature - Golf

I started golf way back in 1990 when I was involved with a major Power Plant project.  One of my duties was to entertain the clients through golf, which at that time I considered "an old man's" game.  Having been very active in tennis since my school days and representing my school and state in athletics, I couldn't imagine me picking up the game...... how wrong I was as I no longer play tennis or run the 100m.

Golf is a sport where you can tell a person's true character as he/she will find it hard to contain their emotions since golf is an easy sport to learn but very hard to master. Golf has also brought me many memories both nice & humorous.  Incidents like forgetting my clubs and shoes to watching my friend accidently have his driver slip and end up in the pond really make the saying " a bad day at golf still beats a good day at the office".

I also used to play in the rain, drive kilometers and until the late hours when it became addictive - lucky I had a group of also crazy golfers.  We used to arrange overseas trips and play almost every day despite feeling exhausted.  The driving range also became our second home to improve our skills and we toyed around with the latest clubs and gadgets available in the market.

I am now a very much social player and may even go without playing golf for long stretches of time and even the Golf Channel is no longer available for me to watch.
